Analysis of Adult Hospitalized Patient¢¥s Need, Satisfaction and Frequency of Care received in relation to Clinical Basic Nursing Activities


Abstract
1. The Purpose: This study was undertaken in an attempt to measure in hospitalized patients the degre of need, satisfaction and frequency of care received in relation.-to basic clinical nursing activities. This study evaluates the level of present nursing quality and seeks more efficient way of elevating nursing practice and quality.
2. The Method: The obzects of research were 95 adult in-patient on a general ward in Jeon Ju City during the period of July 6 to 11, 1987. The research data was collected according to answers given. Questionnaaires regarding the degree of individual nursing need, satisfaction, and frequency of care received. The basic clinical nursing activities were in five categories; 1) Physical care, 2) Psychosocial care 3) Diagnostic-therapeutic measures, 4) Educational services and 5) Environmental services.
3. The Results: The following findings were obtained based upon the- answers of the patients:
a) The mean value score of patient¢¥s need on all clinical basic, nursing activities was high (3.95;but the mean value score of patient¢¥s satisfaction was average (3.17), and the mean value score of frequency of care received was average (3.00)
b) Among the 5 categories, the order of patient¢¥s need of clinical basic nursing activities was as follows: Environmental, Diagnostic and Therapeutic, Physical, Educational and then Psychosocial care, but the order of patient¢¥s satisfaction was as follows: Diagnostic- and I Therapeutic, Physical, Psycho-Social, Educational and then Environmental, and the order of patient¢¥s frequency of care received was as follows: Diagnostic and Therapeutic, Physical, Environmental, PsychoSocial, Educational.
c) The significant correlation was revealed in Diagnostic and Therapeutic measures category only (Between need and satisfaction:r=.25, P=.01, Between need and frequency of care received :r=.25 P =.01, Between satisfaction and frequency of care received :r =.82, P =.00). Among the total mean value score of patient¢¥s need, satisfaction and frequency of care received, a significant correlation was revealed between satisfaction and frequency of care received only (r=.83, p=.00)
